JEAN E. COMPTON

I am an AEA stage manager, traveler, new works booster, and general enthusiast currently based in Chicago. Regionally I’ve worked for 7 summers at Chautauqua Theater Company in Chautauqua, NY, and spent the 2016-2017 season at Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ, and the 2015-2016 centennial season at Cleveland Play House in Cleveland, OH. In Chicago, I am an Associate Artist with Remy Bumppo Theatre Company and a former company member of The Passage Theatre.

I am a graduate of The Theatre School at DePaul University, where I earned a BFA in Stage Management. As a student, I worked as a stagehand/technician in the Historic Merle Reskin Theatre and as a member of the The Theatre School's Marketing, Public Relations, and Special Events team. These jobs gave me an appreciation of both the technical and administrative facets of theatre. In 2012, I created Stage Manager Ryan Gosling which made me briefly and anonymously internet-famous in the theatre community. I also earned the opportunity to study abroad at the Royal Central School for Speech & Drama in London, UK. After growing up on the East Coast, I am excited to continue building a network both internationally and in the regional theatre community.

I am especially drawn to and experienced in new works, but also have experience in opera, classics, and musicals. I am an artist-focused, detail-oriented manager looking for a creative community to contribute to.

CURRENT:

-Just returned from my seventh season at Chautauqua Theater Company, where I stage managed a New Play Workshop of James Anthony Tyler’s PRANAYAMA.

-Stage managed A TALE OF TWO CITIES adapted by Brendan Pelsue, directed by Mikael Burke, with Shattered Globe Theatre.

-Still managing neighborhood tours for Brick of Chicago, and hand embroidering as lay low & stitch, with designs available on Etsy.

CHECK OUT: An interview I did in 2015 with the blog Ciao Bella here.

a killer new @scofne play, the towering figure of lebron james, sitting next to a nice lady from akron who saw a poster and decided she had to be there, feels like 2016 in cleveland all over again
incredible turnout for the first big event film of the year! anticipation, hype and covid delays, a star defined for years by his role in a major franchise, an unlikely hero who must disguise himself to protect those he loves, an oft-retold story in
